Crocodile Bay Fishing Packages

Why We Love It

If you really want to get away from it all and warm up to relaxed and welcoming Puerto Jimenez.  The fishing here is fantastic and also close to the resort.  Whether on land or vessel the environment and wildlife will amaze you.  Crocodile Bay is in southern Costa Rica on the Osa Peninsula—called “The most biologically intense place on Earth” by National Geographic Magazine.  The resort is nestled in the largest tropical rain forest in Costa Rica.  We really enjoy the combination of offshore billfishing, inshore action, the 30 eco tours and adventures.  There is something for everybody at Crocodile Bay.

Package Details

The Lodge offers multi-day, all-inclusive trips that can include fishing and other activities.  We can customize your vacation for any number of days and anytime of the year.  Pricing varies by season and we can help you plan a great vacation during any season at Crocodile Bay.

Daily Schedule

Day One

Your trip starts with getting to San Jose, Costa Rica.  Major airlines fly directly to San Jose from the US.  Our flight from Orlando is about 3 hours.  No need to worry about traveling to another country.  You will be picked up at the airport by your bilingual driver and taken to the Double Tree Cariari hotel where you will spend the night.  There are several good restaurants within walking distance of the hotel and also a mall for any last minute items you may need.

Day Two

The Double Tree has an excellent buffet breakfast that is complimentary.  After breakfast, your driver will pick you up at the hotel and take you back to the airport for your flight on Nature Air down to Crocodile Bay.  The trip is about 45 minutes directly over the Talamanca mountain range and then the Osa Peninsula rainforest.  You arrive at the resort about 10:00 am where you can settle in and then enjoy lunch before you set off on a ½ day rain forest tour.

Day Three

Your first day fishing starts with breakfast and the boat leaves at 6:30 am.  Sunrise is at about the same time year around in Costa Rica.    You walk to the pier and your boat where you will be introduced to your captain and mate and talk about the fishing day.  Boats arrive back at the dock around 3:30 pm.   You have time to relax, enjoy some hors d’oeuvres a cool drink (passion fruit is my favorite), and then have dinner.

Day Four

Another great day of fishing and nature.  If you are inshore fishing, there will be some close up views of the rain forest.   We saw macaws flying over the forest and also a lot of whales on our last trip in August.  You order the day before and it will be on the boat for you.  Soft drinks, water and beer are provided on the boat.  Lisa scheduled a spa treatment after fishing on our second day fishing and then found a way to fit in a second treatment later.

Day Five

Fishing again today.  You will talk with the Crocodile Bay director of fishing each day and you may decide inshore or offshore fishing for this last day.  I personally like inshore fishing with more action and involvement.  At the end of the day, you will still have time to go into Puerto Jimenez, walk the nearby beach, or go and see the namesake crocodiles.

Day Six

This is your day to choose your activities or relax.  How about a sea turtle rescue tour or going back to the rainforest to see the sloths, monkeys and birds?   I like the zip lines and Lisa’s favorite is the chocolate farm.  Don’t forget the award winning spa.   Of course, you can always just sit by the pool and relax.

Fish Species

Costa Rica has a dry season (November through April) and a wet season (May through October).   Like anywhere, these weather patterns offer different fishing at different times of the year.  Although the major fish species are in the waters nearly year-round, the dry season is the best time to fish.

Crocodile Bay Fishing Packages calendar

We have fished both in the wet and dry season.  The dry season from January through April is the best fishing and from our experience, the eco tours are best in the wet season.  We have caught both sailfish and roosterfish in August but the rainforest is lush and very active in the wet season.

Crocodile Bay is a quaint lodge nestled in the rain forest.  The pool is behind the main building which has a spacious dining room, gift shop, and a TV/entertainment room.   There is an outdoor pavilion where dinner may be served straight from the grill.

Rooms with upstairs and downstairs access are located around the main building and pool area for easy access.  There are double rooms, suites which have a separate single room, and single rooms.  Crocodile Bay also has a private villa for a large group.   Each room has a private bath and daily housekeeping service is provided.   Wireless internet is available for a small charge in your room or there is a computer with Internet access in the lodge you may use.

The dining room features a cooked to order breakfast and dinner entrees the chef prepares focusing on local cuisine.  During your stay you can expect entrees of beef, pork, chicken and fresh fish in season of course.  Hors d’oeuvres are served before dinner each day and house wine and beer are complimentary with dinner.

Other Activities

Crocodile Bay and the Osa Peninsula is one of the best places to visit in Costa Rica.  No other resort offers this range of ocean and rain forest experiences.  The Osa Peninsula is part of the largest remaining tropical humid lowland rain forest in Costa Rica covering approximately 700 square miles.  The Peninsula protects more than 360,000 acres and contains thirteen national parks and other protected refuges and reserves.  National Geographic Magazine described the Osa Peninsula as “the most biologically intense place on earth.”

Crocodile Bay offers over 30 eco tours and expeditions designed into four distinct habitats with all skill levels in mind.

Let’s Get Started

Bill and I were just at Crocodile Bay in August 2016.  He has written several articles about our inshore fishing, offshore fishing, and eco tours we took.  There is also a great article with many close up pictures of a whale encounter we had going out one day.  This is really a special place .
